Works of Mercy
Students have the opportunity to participate in the Works of Mercy by choosing from various service opportunities. (If you have a service requirement for a class or club (for example: NHS, Key Club, Research, Economics, etc), please contact that teacher directly for questions about the expectations, requirements, and deadlines.)
We have been privileged in sharing in the lives of others by visiting them at the nursing home, cleaning up churches, painting fences, gardening, cleaning up local beaches and so much more. We strive to make this a normal part of student life so that it can continue past graduation.
The Catholic Church presents us with 14 Works of Mercy:
7 Corporal Works of Mercy (see Mat. 25:31-46) and 7 Spiritual Works of Mercy.
These acts of love and compassion that respond to the physical and spiritual needs of others are not an exhaustive list, but rather 14 categories that spark our imagination about what the Catholic faith looks like in action. The Works of Mercy challenge us to think, see, and act in ways that are radically conformed to Christ. Think of them as the flip side of the Creed: Just as we do not pick and choose which Truths of the Gospel we believe on this day or that, the Works of Mercy are meant to characterize how we live at every moment, especially in relation to God and neighbor.
