Welcome from our Principal's Office

Welcome to Bishop England High School! In my years at this incredible school, I have been blessed to have played many roles and to have experienced it on many levels: as a student, a parent, a teacher, and as an administrator. My family – parents, siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins, and my four children – have walked the halls either here on our beautiful Daniel Island campus or at our previous home on Calhoun Street in downtown Charleston. My great uncle, Father John L. Manning, served as rector in the 1950s when life was quite different! Through the decades, much has changed in the typical day-to-day life of high school students: transportation, communication, curricula, hairstyles, and fashion have all changed significantly since we opened our doors in 1915. What has not changed – and what should never change – is the emphasis that we place on those things that really matter: the foundation in our Catholic faith and the importance of leading our students on their journey to become the people that God has uniquely created them to be.

Preparing our students for “what comes next” is critical to our mission as a Catholic school. What comes next – college, career, and heaven! – are all in our sights as we navigate the four years of high school alongside our students. At Bishop England, we strive to educate the whole child – mind, body, and soul. We encourage our students to live their faith boldly and to embrace the call to become servant leaders in their communities. Through their formation at Bishop England, students are prepared to lead with compassion, integrity, and a deep sense of purpose, embodying our charism that calls us to send our students into the world raised in dignity, elevated in virtue, and loving the glory of the Lord.

In a world that increasingly challenges a Christian worldview, we believe it is more important than ever for students to develop a personal relationship with Christ to guide them throughout their lives. As a Catholic school, we aspire to the universal call to holiness and point to it as the surest path to authentic joy. Bishop England proudly partners with parents in guiding students along this path.

We believe every student is uniquely created by God and deserving of an education that challenges the mind while nurturing the heart and spirit. Through rigorous academics, meaningful service experiences, spiritual formation, and a supportive community, our students are encouraged to discover their gifts and use them in service to others.

Our dedicated faculty and staff walk closely with students throughout these formative years, ensuring that every student is known, supported, and challenged. At Bishop England, students are formed not only for success in the world, but for a life rooted in faith, service, and lasting purpose.

By entrusting your children to us for their high school years, we hope to lead them to become agents of change who will make a lasting and significant impact on the world around them. We hope to instill in them a love of learning, a love of neighbor, and above all else – a true love of God. Accomplishing that, we shall have truly succeeded.
