Academic Accolades

  • Bishop England’s SAT composite score (CR+M) is based on the average of the scores of students in all three levels of study:  Honors/Advanced Placement, Academic I, and Academic II.  For the 2010-2011 school year, the BEHS average score for critical reading is 552 with the national average being 497, state average being 482.  The BEHS average score for mathematics is 539 with the national average being 514, state average being 490.  The BEHS average score for writing is 553 with the national average being 489, state average being 464.
  • Each year more of our students take the ACT for college admissions, and our average scores are across all three levels of study:  Honors/AP, Academic I and Academic II for the 2010-2011 school year:  English, national-20.6, state-19.4, BE-24.5; Mathematics, national-21.1, state-20.3, BE-23.9; Reading, national-21.3, state-20.3, BE-23.9; Science, national-20.9, state-20.1, BE-22.9.
  • Five seniors have been named Commended Students in the 2012 National Merit Scholarship Program:  Joseph C. Annibale, Patrick J. Dynes, Hanna J. Humphreys, Sarah R. Lynch and Elaine J. Rossignol.  About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise.  Although they will not continue in the 2012 competition for National Merit Scholarships, Commended Students placed among the top five percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2012 competition by taking the 2010 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®).
  • Congratulations to Matthew Jones, Caitee Moore, and Gabe Thesing who have been named National Merit Semifinalists for the 2012 National Merit Scholarship Program.  The nationwide pool of Semifinalists, which represent less than one percent of US high school seniors, includes the high-scoring entrants in each state based on their results on the 2010 PSAT.  These three students will continue in the competition for Finalist status which will be announced in the spring.
  • The class of 2011 (181 graduates) earned approximately 7 million dollars in scholarship money for college this fall not including the education lottery money issued by the state for qualified high school graduates
  • The class of 2011 has thirteen students who qualified as Palmetto Fellow Scholars.
  • Thirty-nine Bishop England students have been named Advanced Placement Scholars in recognition of their exceptional achievement on the AP exams in May 2011.  Students may earn college credit in taking these courses in high school by receiving a score of 3 or higher on the AP exams.  BE's pass rate for AP exams this past year is 85% with 234 tests taken in eleven different areas among 110 students.  (2011 Pass rate for SC - 60%, 2011 Pass rate for US - 60%)
