Retreats

Retreats provide an opportunity for students to get away from the demands of the world, strengthen the bonds with their classmates and re-center their lives in faith.

Freshmen - Welcome To BE

Freshman Retreat:  August 11, 2017

Our annual freshman retreat aims to engage our incoming freshman class by asking them to step out of their comfort zones through a full day of games, talks and various team-building activities that aim to welcome them as the next integral part of our Bishop England family.
The bonds formed here in these hallways are unlike any other school in our great city, and it’s at this retreat that we hope to foster the great relationships our students will come to know over the coming years.

Sophomore - Own Your Faith

Sophomore Retreat:  March 16, 2018

With sophomore year wrapping up and final exams coming into view, our students are starting to come into their own as adults, and a fundamental part of growing up in a Christian community is making your faith your own.
It’s at this retreat that we ask our sophomore class to start thinking of how they will individually appropriate their own faith at this point in their lives. We’re called to be God’s hands and feet to this world.  Throughout the retreat, we’ll have various talks and group activities that try to unlock the best of the Christian nature found in each and every one of our tenth grade students.

Junior - Appropriating Your Faith

Junior Retreat:  January 12, 2018

At the start of the third quarter, we hold our junior class retreat.  This retreat serves as a moment for our students to unwind and to step back from the loud world in which they live.

Challenging academics, increased demands for upperclassmen in sports, friend groups growing and changing, new jobs, SATs, college applications……these are all basic examples of the trials our juniors face as they move through their school year.  It’s at this retreat that we call to mind the gifts of the Holy Spirit as they embark even further into the journey as BE students.

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind” 2 Timothy 1:7.

Senior - Faith Does Not Graduate

Senior Retreat:  October 11, 2017

As the years have passed by, our seniors have experienced much in terms of lessons and great stories. Senior year acts as a constant reminder of all the change that is still to come. But in the midst of all this change and all of these hopes and dreams to which we aspire, we call to mind one final simple lesson:  Faith does not graduate.

Our faith isn’t something to be left behind once graduation take place. Rather we are called to take the lessons and examples of God’s mercy experienced in our own lives out into the world and beyond these halls. The senior class retreat is a call to action to show that our students are prepared to share the light of Christ anywhere they go.
