Retreats

Retreats provide an opportunity for students to get away from the demands of the world, strengthen the bonds with their classmates and re-center their lives in faith.

Freshmen - NOVA

Freshman Retreat:

Our freshmen retreat capitalizes on the anticipation of new experiences by reflecting on the words of our Heavenly King, “Behold, I make all things new” (Rev 21:5). Our incoming freshmen are provided opportunities to contemplate this theme in a day full of exciting games, engaging talks and philanthropic service. In this way, our newest students are both introduced to the mission and identity of Bishop England High School and also given their first opportunity to find friendships and community to help them grow as the individuals they were meant to be.

Sophomore - Tempus

Sophomore Retreat:

When Queen Esther was faced with a life-or-death decision, her cousin Mordecai encouraged her with the words, “Perhaps you were born for such a time as this.” “Tempus” is a Latin word meaning, “time, period, or season.” At this retreat, our sophomores are reminded that they were put on this earth during this period in history for a specific purpose. Although we may never face potential physical death in order to do the right thing, we will all have to face a “death” of some sort in order to truly live out our faith – often that death occurs within our social circles. Through talks, small groups, and the sacraments, our sophomores are equipped with graces and virtues to assist them in making faithful decisions when these occasions arise. Lastly, they are reminded of the glorious ending of Esther’s decision, as well as an emphasis on the truth that with every death – even a social one – there will be a resurrection.

Junior - Kairos

Junior Retreat:

Kairos is the ancient Greek word for the “opportune moment” or “right time,” better understood as a time when God acts and the human heart is moved to respond. Bishop England juniors participate in this three-day, two-night Roman Catholic retreat program aimed at sparking life-long conversion in the hearts of all who attend. Based on the spiritual practices of St. Ignatius of Loyola, senior student leaders give faithful, joyful, and courageous talks based on Gospel values that deeply impact their junior peers, yielding life-long effects.

Senior - Omega

Senior Retreat:

With the four years of high school drawing to a close, it can be easy for seniors to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of things ending. Thus, the senior retreat serves as a reminder to our seniors that God is everlasting, as He is the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, and that our time spent on this earth pales in comparison with the amount of time we will spend in eternity. This retreat aims to encourage and equip our students with tips and tools to continue growing in their faith through college and beyond.
