Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam Scholarship

Our founder, Bishop John England, believed in providing Catholic education to all students. Bishop England High School continues to share in this belief today and, with the help of generous donors like you, works to make it a reality.

A word from Chris Frisby, Dean of Student Success & Engagement, and Jorge Villamizar Escobar, Director of Community Outreach

Through the Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam (AMDG) Scholarship, these students in most need are provided with the opportunity to attend Bishop England High School, and we need your help to expand this opportunity to other deserving students. In celebration of Black History Month and our mission to provide a Catholic education to all students, we ask all alumni to consider a gift to the AMDG Scholarship. All money raised goes directly to tuition payments for another student to join the BEHS family in 2024.

The AMDG scholarship was established in 2020 by Tim and Mary Hayes because they knew that a Catholic education could play an essential role in breaking the cycle of poverty and closing the achievement gap for underprivileged and minority youth.

St. Ignatius coined the phrase which became the motto for the whole Jesuit community: “ad majorem Dei gloriam” meaning “to the greater glory of God!”, a prayer that God would be glorified by their every action and that others would be attracted to the goodness of God because of their actions.

This scholarship provides the necessary support for a student to attend Bishop England High School for four years. It ensures that the student has access to the resources they need to be successful in an inclusive, academically challenging environment, regardless of their family’s ability to pay.

Did you know that Catholic education can break the cycle of poverty and close the achievement gap for minority students?

Catholic schools have the lowest dropout rate for underprivileged students (only 3.4% compared to 11.9% from other private schools and 14.4% in public schools).
