Career Counseling

When it comes to choosing a career, students and adults alike may change their minds many times before settling on something. Our counselors are here to assist students in discovering what they like and dislike, what they are good at, and some personality traits that may help them in identifying a career path. Using the inventories in Naviance, students and their counselors can look at the results and explore possible occupations that may be a good fit. One of the most important things to remember is that it is okay to be undecided, as this is a time of exploration.

Frequently Asked Questions

I have no idea what I want to be. Is there anything I can do to help me decide on a career path?

Yes. There are many interest inventories and personality tests out there. Start by logging into your Naviance account, clicking on the Career tab, and taking any or all of the interest inventories there.

How can I get information on a particular occupation?

Go to your Naviance account, click on the Career tab, and then type in the career you want to know about in the search field. You will find information on what that person does, the type and amount of education and training needed, the salary range, and links to similar occupations, as well as, a listing of colleges that offer that field of study. There are also short videos available on Road Trip Nation in which you can listen to real people talk about their occupations.

Are there other career resources other than Naviance?

Yes, there are. Check out Occupation Outlook Handbook which is put out by the U.S. Department of Labor. The OOH can help you find career information on duties, education and training, pay, and outlook for hundreds of occupations. You can also explore College Board’s site to find another resource.

Career Day

The Counseling Department works hard each year to bring in at least 30-40 professionals in various interesting career fields to talk to our students. This year, Career Day will be held the morning of March 18, 2020..
