Student Success Program & Community Outreach

Catholic education is designed for the success of all learners. Student success is not limited to academic achievement. It addresses the whole experience of the student. The foundation of the Student Success Program is to address the students’ academic, social/emotional, and behavioral needs daily. We support students and families as we navigate various life issues compassionately. A team approach involves all stakeholders: staff, families, students, and private providers.

The Dean of Student Success & Engagement (DSSE) provides stewardship and support to students, families, and the school in ensuring meaningful academic success and community engagement. The daily classroom experience and the institutional approach to achieving expected student outcomes all fall under the purview of our Student Success program. Monitoring student challenges and working to successful resolution for each student is fundamental to the program. Outreach to underrepresented communities is also a top priority. The DSSE assists in the recruitment and retention of valued members of the Bishop England community and generally works to nurture an appreciation for participation in the life of the school today that is worthy of our proud history and traditions.

WHAT IS STUDENT ENGAGEMENT, AND WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?

Although there is considerable variation in how “student engagement” is defined and measured, the term is generally used to describe meaningful student involvement throughout the learning environment. Thus, “student engagement” is best understood as a relationship between the student and the following elements of the learning environment:

  • School Community
  • Adults at school
  • Student’s peers
  • Instruction
  • Curriculum

THE BISHOP ENGLAND FAMILY

Hello and welcome to a new year at Bishop England High School. We could not be us without you. Every single family brings a unique set of gifts without which we’d all be impoverished.

How can we better serve the educational journey of our families? In which ways can we leverage our strengths and mend our weaknesses? Which marginalized voices need amplification? How can we better prepare our students to enter the world as transformational Catholic leaders? It takes the whole cacophony of voices from the community to provide these answers. As I reach out to families to listen, welcome, and attend, I bring back ideas to nurture and strengthen our school community. We are excited and happy for this year ahead, and from my office, I’m all ears.
