Application Process

The admissions process begins on the night of our Open House which is typically scheduled within the first week of November. That evening we have a full program with an activities fair, presentations from our administrators, and an introduction of our departmental chairpersons who will be available to answer questions specifically to his/her respective department.  Many students are available to greet and share their experiences with you, as well as, other faculty members contributing to the evening.  We offer campus tours the night of Open House and throughout the year and also allow applicants an opportunity to shadow a current student in order to receive a snapshot of life on the Bishop England campus.  Once the Open House has taken place, applicants may begin applying online for the following school year.

We expect all incoming ninth and tenth grade applicants to take our Placement Test given in January each year on our campus. We begin accepting registration for the test during November and December of the previous year. There is a cost for the testing, and results will be shared with the applicants and their families.  Once testing is complete and school records are forwarded to us, our placement committee begins the task of reviewing each file to determine acceptance and level of study.  Typically first pool acceptance letters are mailed the first week of March.

For those families who contact us after our testing date in January and begin the process a bit later than others, we create a second pool of applicants with their process continuing on into March.  After March, our admissions office handles applicants on a case by case basis before the start of the next school year.

If you are interested in beginning the process for admission, please click the appropriate tab below to read further.  Admission is open to those seeking grades 9, 10 or 11.  We do not take local, senior transfers without extreme circumstances; it is a rare occurrence.   If you have any questions at any time throughout the process, please ask.

Bishop England’s Admissions Office is a proud member of GCAPS Greater Charleston Association of Private Schools .

NOTE:  Any applications for the current school year of 2023-24 will be handled on a case-by-case basis; please call the admissions office to discuss.
