A Year of Service

As an institution of the Catholic Church, Bishop England High School is ever mindful of our Lord’s admonition, “as you did it to one of the least of these brethren, you did it to me” (Matthew 25:40). Therefore, the school strongly encourages the students to live out the demands of their faith in works of mercy, service, and charity.

National Honor Society Getting BE in the Spirit of Giving

The Father O’Brien Chapter of the National Honor Society sponsored College Rivalry Tag Day in Fall and raised $500 for the Steve Kramer Scholarship. During the Christmas season, NHS members made and sold paper angel ornaments to homerooms that students then decorated their homeroom paper tree. With the funds raised, the NHS donated $500 to Camp Happy Days in memory of two NHS members: Mary Marquardt and Hannah Warren. Camp Happy Days’ offers support and encouragement to children diagnosed with cancer and their families by providing cost free year-round programs, special events and access to crisis resources. Way to go NHS for getting everyone in the spirit of giving!

Freshman Board In The Holiday Spirit of Service All Year

The Freshman Board shared the spirit of service all year with their candy grams at Halloween and with carnations sale on Valentine’s Day. This Christmas season, they sponsored a child at MUSC Children’s hospital with Christmas gifts. Additionally, they have donated to Nicholas J. Theos Tuition Assistance Fund.

Junior Board’s Crafty Creations Bring Christmas Cheer to Lowcountry Children

This Christmas season, Junior Board made and sold BE Christmas Ornaments. These were no ordinary ornaments. Through the sale of their merry and bright BE ornaments, they raised over $400 dollars!

Junior Board used the funds raised to adopt a family through Charleston Elves to purchase gifts for Christmas. In addition to purchasing the items on the wish list, and they were able to make a monetary donation to a family in need. The Charleston Elves are a group of volunteers in the Charleston community who are committed to making sure that children with cancer and their families have a wonderful holiday season.

The Engineering Club is a  new club formed this year. Their goal is to expose members to different fields and jobs in the engineering sector and enter in different engineering competitions. For their service project, they placed collection containers at the DI Club tennis center, BE tennis courts and LTP’s courts. The used tennis balls collected were recycled to make new playground turfs, rubber soles on shoes, and horse tracks. Three containers were filled with an estimated 100 tennis balls per container. The donation amount to this cause was around $300. Also, by collecting these tennis balls, the methane-producing rubber can be handled properly so it isn’t released into the environment as a greenhouse gas. If you have any interest in being a part of this club next year please reach out to Ayden Haas or Ms. Leonard.

CSMC Feeding the Hungry

This past year during the Christmas season, thanks to the generosity of our students, faculty, staff, and parents, CSMC Club raised over $5,000 and collected thousands of canned goods for the annual CSMC Money Drive for the Poor. The canned goods and other foods purchased are given to eight organizations that help feed those in need around our community. It was a great success! Special thanks to all our CSMC Club members for all their hard work!

Sophomore Board Brings Smiles to Medical Workers, Tuition Support to Fellow BE Students and Christmas Cheer to Our Community

In support of medical workers during the Covid-19 pandemic, the Sophomore board sent lunch to Roper Mt. Pleasant hospital ICU for the hard work and dedication of the medical staff.

The Sophomore Board didn’t stop there. They donated $1,500 to emergency tuition assistance to help 9 of their classmates whose families were struggling as a result of COVID-19.

Sophomore Board partnered with Carter-May home to do activities and work throughout the year. They did a Christmas event where they built gingerbread houses with residents. They also sponsored a young child, and his brother, this year that is going through a rare form of cancer.

The Sophomore Board was able to provide these generous acts of service through two fundraisers throughout the year. The first was a cheesecake/sweets fundraiser at the beginning of the year. During the 2nd semester, the entire Sophomore class takes part in the World’s Finest Chocolate fundraiser.

Sophomore Board has made an incredible impact in the community this year! Well done BE Class of 2022!
