It’s a bird! It’s a plane! No, it’s a drone!

Have you ever heard of the BEHS Air Team? Probably not. They are new around here but are ready for “Take Off.” Juniors Kyle Brown, Griffin Buss, Jackson McLaughlin, Griffin Murray, and Joseph Shores are all friends at Bishop England High School.

Together, they developed the idea for an innovative drone team to align their shared aviation, science, and engineering interests with opportunities for applied learning, tangible industry experience, and friendly competition. This group of young men quickly organized and pitched their idea to compete in a drone competition to Coach Buss, an experienced military and private-industry aviator herself. “I was impressed with their desire to create and explore deep learning opportunities into their shared passion,” says Buss.

“We just wanted to have fun together while simultaneously
doing innovative and exciting things!”

– Joseph Shores, Team Captain

BEHS Air is asking for your help to get them into the competitive circuit. Currently, the BEHS Air Team is researching, designing, and building their drone to compete in an internationally renowned competition in Virginia this summer against top-tier high schools but mostly universities worldwide.  Having Bishop England High School represented in this prestigious event will be quite an honor.

The BEHS Air Team is asking for financial support to pay for the entry costs and complete construction on these drones, one for testing/training and the other for competition. The deadline for constructing their drones and registering for the competition is October 20, 2023.

“We admire the ambition of these young men and want to do everything in our power to help them reach their goals.
They are exploring new avenues that would add to the unique character
and offerings of Bishop England High School in the long-term.”

– President, Patrick Finneran
