Sophomore Retreat 2024

The morning began with Campus Minster Mr. Ben Robertson encouraging students to open up to new experiences and be excited about what God has to offer on their retreat day.
The message throughout the day was to lay our anchor in what is eternal: what we are designed for, not lesser temporary things that cannot fulfill the infinite desire for Himself God placed in our hearts.
Questions of choice and priority challenged students. They reflected on where their anchor is, “Am I choosing to put my anchor in moveable or unmovable things?

Three students – Finn Randall, Carter Riley, and Lily Edgerton – along with their Theology teacher, Ms. Gonzalez, shared their personal testimonies of finding trust in God’s plan. They emphasized that to achieve a goal, one must have faith, a clear objective, and pace themselves. They encouraged their peers to prioritize their spiritual life above all else, as whatever is at the top will anchor them. If your anchor is placed in temporary things, they will constantly shift, leading you astray from what you truly seek. However, if your anchor is placed in spirituality and God, it will sustain you forever.

Throughout the day, the students participated in various games and activities that encouraged them to communicate, work together, and form connections with one another. In the morning, the students had the opportunity to attend two small group breakout sessions, which covered topics such as the ABCs of Substance Abuse, Where are You at and Where are You Going?, Using Social Media Virtuously, Going Deeper in Lectio Divina, Interior Silence: Prayer of the Heart, and Complacency: How to Fight It. Before breaking for lunc, students gathered together to celebrate mass. The retreat ended with confessions and the exposition of the blessed sacrament.
